This site is under development :
The included top logo and accompanying image should clearly indicate that this blog is about deafness and people who frequently find themselves saying “I can’t hear you”. Intentionally I’ve omitted the often proceeding word “sorry” because the deaf shouldn't need to apologise when they can’t hear.

The author of the site fits perfectly within the deaf category as I have spent all of my adult life – over forty years – coping with the inability to hear. It always astounds me that there is a prevailing perception among some hearing people that deafness in no big deal, that a hearing aid or cochlear implant cures deafness; nothing could be further from the truth.
Coexisting with poor attitudes about deafness is an often inadequate knowledge by deaf people themselves of the process of hearing, causes of deafness and what options are available to help one hear better. It’s almost an involuntary subservient tendency, where the deaf tend to rely on the hearing for advice and can sometimes be subjected to a degree of coercion when choosing solutions; deaf people tend to agree too easily and say "yes" too often.
So this is what this blog is about. It’s my attempt to record as much as I can about my experiences in dealing with deafness, the techniques I’ve adopted and the knowledge I have gained. My posts are not intended as a substitute medical and audiological assessment, this is an area for expert advice. Rather, I hope that over time and with the input from others, that this blog will provide a useful resource for information that will assists us, the deaf, to participate better in the hearing world.
